Going to SporcleCon?

Then join us at 12:30 on Sunday as Steel City Trivia presents...

"Wait...what's Trivia Trails?"

Glad you asked. Trivia Trails is a "go ahead and Google that" trivia quiz where each answer is a breadcrumb that leads you along a trail to the next answer. Find your way to the end of the Trivia Trail to come out the winner!

"How does it work?"

Teams will be given a sheet with a long, convoluted way of getting to an answer. Once they find that answer, they'll bring it up to be checked, and if correct, they'll be given the next clue along the trail. They'll do this until they've solved all ten of the clues and make it to the end of the Trivia Trail!

"Ok...can I have an example?"

Sure! Here's an idea of what a clue looks like:

A web site that launched on April 23, 2007 is closely associated with a color that shares its name with a band from Los Angeles who saw one of their songs used as the theme for an animated series that had a character named White Knight who was voiced by a prolific actor. What role did this actor play in the alphabetically-last (ignoring "a", "the", etc.) movie released in the year that saw the greatest number of movie releases in which they're credited?

Highlight the space below to get the full solution to this clue:

Sporcle.com launched on 4/23/07 and uses a heavily orange theme. Pop/punk band Orange's song "Revolution" is the theme to the Cartoon Network show "Generator Rex", featuring J.K. Simmons as White Knight. Simmons was in ten movies in 2009, and the alphabetically-last one was "The Way of War" in which he played Sergeant Mitchell.

"Woah. That's a long, convoluted clue."

You betcha! That's how the game will run -- ten of those, and the first team to solve them all will be declared the winner of the first game, and then we reset and we do it all again (time dependent).

"But how are we supposed to figure that all out? I mean, I love trivia, but no one knows this stuff off the top of their head!"

They absolutely do not. Which is why this will be a rare thing at SporcleCon: A trivia game where phones are 100% allowed! You can use Google, Wikipedia, YouTube, whatever you like to get to the end of the Trail.

"This sounds awesome, and is clearly the product of a brilliant and handsome guy."

Awww, thanks. And just to clear up a couple of other things people have asked...

  • Teams are limited to four players in size. No, scratch that. It looks like this will be MUCH more heavily-attended than we had anticipated, so let's make it up to six (full disclosure: You're only getting one clue sheet per team, so it'll be difficult to that many people to read it!)

  • Phones and tablets only, no laptops. Basically, if a device has a real keyboard, that's a big advantage when trying to PowerGoogle. We're looking to keep the playing field level.

  • You do NOT need to solve the entirety of each clue -- all we're looking for is the answer to the final portion of each one (it'll be highlighted), so if you can find a way to skip over part of the clue, cool. There are definitely built-in shortcuts throughout the Trail!

That's about it -- hope to see you all on August 17th!
